Sheridan Maine is recruiting on behalf of a growing and collaborative accountancy practice for a US Tax Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in US tax compliance to further develop their advisory exposure, work with a varied client portfolio, and build strong professional relationships.

This role offers hybrid working flexibility and the chance to work alongside experienced tax professionals in a supportive team environment.

Key responsibilities of the US Tax Assistant:
  • Manage and support a portfolio of US-connected clients, assisting with all aspects of US tax compliance and client relationship management.
  • Prepare US tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates.
  • Liaise with clients to identify missing information for filings, communicating clearly and professionally.
  • Support Managers and Directors in delivering high-quality advisory services to US clients based in the UK.
  • Manage workload effectively to meet deadlines and ensure deliverables are completed to a high standard.
  • Continue developing technical knowledge, including support toward professional qualifications such as Enrolled Agent (EA) status.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the wider tax team to ensure a joined-up service.
Skills, knowledge, and experience:
  • Enrolled Agent (EA) qualification preferred but not essential.
  • Experience in US personal and owner-managed business tax compliance and advisory work.
  • Familiarity with US corporate and partnership tax compliance (forms such as 1120, 1120-F, 1065, 1040, 1040NR, 3520, 5471, 8858 – not all required).
  • Understanding of US tax compliance rules, extensions, and reporting requirements.
  • UK tax knowledge is beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence to interact with clients and colleagues at all levels.
