Sheridan Maine is delighted to be working with an established accountancy practice in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, to recruit an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join its team.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced bookkeeper who enjoys working closely with clients and is looking for a role offering variety, responsibility and the opportunity to develop their career within practice.

The Role
As Senior Bookkeeper, you will provide a high-quality bookkeeping service to a varied portfolio of clients, working closely with business owners and colleagues across the practice.

Your responsibilities as a Senior Bookkeeper will include:

• Managing bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients across a range of sectors.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
• Processing purchase and sales invoices, payments and receipts.
• Completing bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies.
• Preparing VAT returns and supporting clients with VAT-related queries.
• Preparing management accounts and financial reports where required.
• Assisting with year-end accounts and other accounting requirements.
• Liaising directly with clients and responding to their queries in a professional and timely manner.
• Supporting clients with their accounting systems and processes.
• Reviewing bookkeeping work and providing guidance to junior colleagues where required.
• Ensuring deadlines are met and work is completed accurately.
  
  

About You
We are looking for an experienced bookkeeper who has either worked within an accountancy practice or has significant experience managing accounts for multiple businesses.

You will ideally have:

• Strong bookkeeping and accounting experience.
• Experience working with a portfolio of clients would be advantageous.
• Good knowledge of VAT and general accounting principles.
• Experience using cloud accounting software such as Xero, Sage or QuickBooks.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Good communication skills and confidence dealing directly with clients.
• A proactive, practical approach to problem-solving.
• AAT qualification or equivalent experience would be advantageous.
